The Portland Ballet believes that young dancers thrive in a performance-centered environment.  Dancers prepare in a rehearsal process that mirrors that of the professional dancer.  Each season TPB stages three major productions: The Holiday Performance, Spring Concert and Studio Theatre Performance. In addition, it produces an Academy Showcase to celebrate the conclusion of the academic year.

The repertoire is carefully selected each year to include a wide variety of styles and influences.  Narrative works, excerpts from classical full-length ballets, neo-classical pieces and original contemporary works all combine to provide students with a well rounded performance experience.  TPB is one of only a handful of U.S. ballet schools linked to The George Balanchine Trust, which provides students with the opportunity to learn and perform works by the master choreographer.

Students aged 14-19 may audition for TPB’s Youth Company, which participates in the Holiday Performance and Spring Concert. The company is comprised of talented, highly committed young dancers. Expert choreography, instruction, music, costumes and set design ensure that each show is an opportunity to participate in a professional-caliber production.
