Repertory

The Portland Ballet Youth Company performs three annual productions: the holiday classic La Boutique Fantasque, the mixed repertoire concert Spring Ballet, and the Masters Workshop.

La Boutique Fantasque

La Boutique Fantasque, The Portland Ballet's cornerstone, kicks off Portland's vibrant holiday season with its weekend performances at the Newmark Theatre. In the midst of the Thanksgiving Parades and Pioneer Square Christmas Tree Lighting, the performances feature not only the youth company members but talented students from the academy.

The Portland Ballet is proud to partner with Portland State University Orchestra, conducted by Ken Selden providing LIVE accompaniment to the 2009 La Boutique Fantasque!

Spring Ballet

The Portland Ballet's Spring Ballet is a mixed repertoire performance featuring traditional classical works like Sleeping Beauty, Paquita and Don Quixote, ballets from The George Balanchine Trust, and original piece created on the dancers by Alexandrous Ballard, TPB's resident choreographer.

The Spring Ballet is presented at TPB's Studio Theatre, which allows audiences to not only view the company dancers in an intimate setting but also to visit and learn more about the company and academy as a whole. Donors are invited to attend a 'working' rehearsal for the performance and to spend an evening under TPB's outdoor tent with wine and hors d'oeuvres.

Masters Workshop

The Masters Workshop is an intensive process in which dancers are cast in various pieces, rehearse, and then at the end of two weeks, perform at the Newmark Theatre. Advanced dancers audition in the early spring for acceptance in the workshop. Each piece performed is staged by guest choreographers and ballet masters from prominent ballet companies from around the country.

This amazing event showcases the talent of TPB's youth company and is considered by many to be a true simulated experience of what professional company life is like for new, emerging dancers.
