The Program

When looking for the right summer program, you face a critical decision. All summer ballet programs are not created equal. The right choice can make a quantum difference in the level of achievement gained during the precious summer months of intense training. The Portland Ballet offers the broadest, deepest, and most enriching ballet instruction in the region. It does so in an environment that is challenging and supportive, disciplined and rigorous, yet also safe, healthy, and nurturing.

The best blend of teaching and curriculum

TPB has assembled an unparalleled staff of teachers, all with distinguished professional dance experience. Their expertise and dedication are focused within a curriculum unmatched in the area for breadth, depth, and flexibility. TPB’s syllabus is based on the Russian Vaganova method of ballet mastery (the approach most famously taught and Americanized by George Balanchine) and includes the region’s only Men’s Ballet Program, with male teachers.

In addition, the school is one of a handful across the US with a tie to The George Balanchine Trust, qualifying dancers for rare learning and performance opportunities. TPB’s summer program is designed to provide a concentrated experience with multiple teachers and choreographers. Fabulous visiting guest artists round-out the program by further expanding the curriculum and network connections in the ballet world.

Schedule

The program runs Monday through Saturday. Classes offered will include core/stretch, ballet technique, pointe, variations, men’s technique, partnering, modern, jazz, character as well as a lecture series including Music Appreciation.

The last part of the day is spent in workshop rehearsals in preparation for the performance at the end of the program.
